Minnesota CEO wins honors for book on leadership

Looking for guidance in business leadership?

You may want to check out Minnesotan Jeff Appelquist’s new book, “Sacred Ground: Leadership Lessons from Gettysburg and the Little Bighorn.”

As mentioned by Ann Grossmann in the A&E Live section of today’s Pioneer Press, “Sacred Ground” won Writer’s Digest 18th annual Self-Published Book Award for Non-Fiction.

The book also earned a 2010 National Indie Excellence Award, and Appelquist is now in-demand as both a public speaker and director of leadership seminars.

In his book, Appelquist — a former Best Buy executive and the founder and CEO of Blue Knight Enterprises, Inc. — explores key leadership dimensions using historical examples and modern-day business case studies.

Appelquist’s approach combines American military history with his professional experience as an entrepreneur, small-business owner and leader in Fortune 100 companies — examining momentous military events through the lens of individual leadership and team dynamics.

Situational dynamics change over time, argues Appelquist, but the principles of leadership are enduring — and great leadership is timeless.

Currently, Appelquist is busy heading Blue Knights Seminars — an individual leadership and team development training program that evolved from the Learning Through History program he implemented at Best Buy.
