Social network ad revenues on the rise

According to the eMarketer blog, social networks are steadily increasing their share of total online ad spending in the U.S. and worldwide.

Of the nearly $69 billion dedicated to online advertising worldwide in 2011, 8.7 percent will be spent on social networking sites.

In the U.S., marketers will spend a predicted $3.08 billion to advertise on social networks in 2011, a 55 percent increase over 2010. 

As mobile advertising becomes more sophisticated, experts also expect more ads to funnel into mobile versions of social networks.
