Next Friday, join Urbanites — the Ordway’s young professionals group — for a performance by TU Dance. Led by Alvin Ailey veterans Toni Pierce-Sands and Uri Sands, TU Dance has quickly become a leading voice in the Minnesota dance scene.
Inspired by the depictions of urban life and dance in the paintings of African American artist Ernie Barnes, choreographer Uri Sands brings the movement of Barnes’ work from the canvas to the stage in this commissioned World Premiere. Also on the program for TU Dance’s Ordway debut are selections from the company’s growing repertory.
Urbanites members get half-priced tix — call the Ordway box office at 651-224-4222 or buy online with promo code: URBAN. To become an Urbanites member, contact Jessica Brooks: jbrooks [at] ordway [dot] org.
The show begins at 7:30 p.m., but Urbanites will be gathering at 6:30 p.m. for pre-show extras. After the show, stick around for Talkback, a Q & A session about the show with members of the cast and creative team.
