YPN5Q is a weekly Q&A series spotlighting the state’s top young business and civic leaders and creative minds — professionals propelling change through entrepreneurship, the arts, public service, social media, and community involvement.
This week, we hear from Mike Marcotte, an assistant producer for the television talk show “Twin Cities Live.” Before joining the “TCL” team, Marcotte was senior marketing coordinator at Big Brothers Big Sisters of the Greater Twin Cities, where he launched and co-directed the agency’s young professionals group.
Name: Mike Marcotte
Current job title: Assistant Producer and Guest Coordinator
Current employer: Twin Cities Live (KSTP-TV)
1. What was your first job?
I spent eight years working at Festival Foods in Lexington; I started as a freshman in high school.
2. What do you like to do outside your day job?
Well, if the Twins were doing better, I’d be watching more games at Target Field.
3. What are your TV addictions?
Good question for me. I’m a news junkie. “Nightline” is a great show, and not because I work for an ABC affiliate. “Modern Family” is probably one of the best comedies ever written.
4. If you could live anywhere, where would it be?
Barcelona, Spain. I’ve only been there once, but I fell in love.
5. What are your must-have State Fair foods?
Since I spend so much time at the State Fair for work, I have a “top five” list of non-traditional fair foods:
Turkey sandwich from Turkey-To-Go
Wild rice cheeseburger from Wild Rice Specialties
Vanilla malt from Sadie’s
Pot roast sundae from Butcher Block
Deep-fried apple pie from Minneapple Pie
