Great River Energy, based in Maple Grove, Minn., is a not-for-profit wholesale electric cooperative owned by 28 distribution cooperatives. Approximately one-third of the people in Minnesota receive their electricity from a cooperative. Just like their counterparts in agriculture or housing, cooperative utilities are owned by the members they serve. Great River Energy’s member cooperatives provide electric service to approximately 695,000 consumers, or 1.7 million Minnesotans.

Great River Energy is the second largest electric power supplier in Minnesota and one of the largest generation and transmission cooperatives in the country.

We closely follow industry-related issues on behalf of our 28 member-owners. Active at both federal and state levels, we work with industry associations and other stakeholder groups to ensure we can deliver on our triple bottom line commitment of providing affordable rates, reliable energy service and environmental stewardship to our members.

In order to support these efforts, Great River Energy proudly sponsors MinnPost’s D.C. Memo, a weekly roundup of the most informative, insightful and entertaining coverage coming out of Washington. Great River Energy is a corporate citizen. Through the sponsorship of D.C. Memo, we aim to build strong community relationships.

Editor’s note: While Great River Energy’s sponsorship supports the publication of D.C. Memo, Great River Energy does not review or influence the column’s content. This is in accordance with MinnPost’s editorial independence policy.
