Rochester Mayor Ardell Brede has been invited to a White House event to welcome Pope Francis on Sept. 23.

Brede, who’s been mayor since 2003, said the arrival ceremony invitation came from the White House Office of Intergovernmental Affairs.

He’ll join President Barack Obama and others on the South Lawn of the White House that morning to greet the pope.

Brede said: “Whatever it is, it’s always, for me it’s a privilege an honor to be able to represent this city at some pretty significant things, and this is pretty significant.”

The pope will also visit Philadelphia and New York City on his first visit to the U.S.
