Mortenson Construction of Golden Valley, one of the nation’s leading wind-energy contractors, has been selected to build a 1.8-megawatt solar photovoltaic array in New Jersey.

The project marks Mortenson’s first foray into the solar-power market. The system will be installed at a nonprofit behavioral health care system and be the largest solar power system in the New Jersey.

The 25,000 photovoltaic modules are expected to supply 50 percent of the electricity for the Carrier Clinic during its peak demand.

“Our expertise developed in the wind energy industry allows us to deliver a better building experience for customers in solar and other renewable energy markets,” said Mark Donahue, general manager of Mortenson’s renewable energy groups.
