Medtronic reportedly investing $70M in Israeli firm, Minnesota Zoo to open rainforest exhibit, events to clog traffic downtown Wednesday, and Mosaic’s Florida HQ is complete.

Report: Medtronic to invest $70M in Israeli firm: Medtronic has signed a deal to invest $70 million in Israeli medical-device company BioControl Medical Ltd., according to a report in Globesnewspaper. As part of the agreement, Fridley-based Medtronic also secured an option to acquire BioControl for $550 million. BioControl is developing an implantable medical device that treats heart failure by stimulating the nerve that regulates a person’s heart beat, among other body functions. Read full story

Minnesota Zoo to open rainforest exhibit: The Minnesota Zoo will open a new exhibit, “Faces of the African Forest,” on Saturday. The exhibit, part of the zoo’s Tropics Trail area, will feature animals that live in the African rainforest, including fruit bats, red river hogs, crocodiles and monkeys. Read full story

Events to clog traffic downtown Wednesday: Two major events are expected to generate severe traffic congestion in downtown Minneapolis on Wednesday. About 19,000 people are slated to attend a traveling event, the Get Motivated Seminar, at Target Center from 8 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. The Get Motivated seminar features several celebrity speakers, including Sarah Palin, Brett Favre and Colin Powell. Alsoe, the Minnesota Twins will be playing a sold-out game against the New York Yankees. Doors for the game open at 4:30 p.m. Read full story

Mosaic Co.’s Florida HQ is complete: Ryan Cos. US Inc. has completed the Mosaic Co.’s $20 million Florida headquarters. The 113,000-square-foot building was designed and built as a high-performing, sustainable facility that “reflects Mosaic’s brand and culture,” a release said. Read full story
