  1. Bowles-Simpson is at the top of my wish list. Just enough reform in it to offend both sides equally.

  2. Far from “decimating” our country, the cuts to defense spending that would come from giving up the false belief that only we — “the greatest country in the world” — can keep the world safe by stationing troops in its every corner.

    The Progressive Democratic Caucus’s budget would significantly cut unnecessary defense spending, end corporate welfare and the Bush tax cuts so revenue would rise and, in ten years, wipe out the deficit and return us to a budget surplus. (Google “The People’s Budget.”)

    But adopting it would require a sea change in the Congress, most unfortunately.
