You’ve heard Barb Abney’s voice on The Current and now from 8:00 a.m. to noon on Go 96.3 FM. We’re proud you’ll also be hearing it from the MinnRoast stage as she co-hosts this year’s festivities.
Abney will be sharing the stage with Roxane Battle, a MinnRoast veteran who’s worked in local television news for more than 20 years and is a former anchor and reporter for KARE-11, where she received several Emmy nominations and Minnesota press awards. Battle has also written for MinnPost, and her memoir, “Pockets of Joy,” about her time as a TV personality and a divorced single mom, will be published in May. Battle is currently the media director for Speak the Word Church International in Golden Valley.
MinnRoast 2015, held on April 24 at the Historic State Theatre in downtown Minneapolis, is our eighth annual song-and-skit variety show featuring your favorite local politicians, journalists and media types. All proceeds support MinnPost, your online source for local, high-quality, independent news coverage for Minnesota. MinnPost members who donate $10 per month or $120 per year (or more) are eligible for a 25% ticket discount on show-only MinnRoast tickets at the $16, $44, or $84 levels. Please contact membership coordinator Ashleigh at email@example.com or (612) 455-6954 for details and the discount code.
Joining Abney and Battle this year will be returning guests Mayor Betsy Hodges, Brian “B.T.” Turner, Rep. Tom Emmer, vocalist Tesfa Wondemagegnehu and Le Cirque Rouge Cabaret & Burlesque Show Band. Joining the MinnRoast cast for the first time will be Rep. Keith Ellison, House Speaker Kurt Daudt and vocalist Maria Jette. You can find more information about the event and special guests here.
