Over the last six months, MinnPost has entered partnerships with the journalism schools at the University of Missouri and University of Iowa to add two full-time, paid summer internships to our newsroom.

We’re excited to announce that Maddie Gonzales and Chris Meglio, students at Mizzou and Iowa, respectively, will join us this month to learn about audience growth, visual journalism, reporting and more. And our newsroom is equally excited to learn from them about how journalists-in-training are thinking about their roles in a rapidly changing media environment.

Gonzales hails from Houston, Texas, and will be working with audience editor Jazzmine Jackson on a variety of audience-related projects, as well as reporting and visual journalism. She has done some reporting for Mizzou’s TV station and is excited to explore Minneapolis for the first time!

Meglio grew up in the Chicago area and will be working with associate editor Gregg Aamot on reporting, including contributing to MinnPost’s election coverage. He has been a sports writer for the Daily Iowan, so we’re excited to also connect him with MinnPost’s two veteran sports freelancers. Here’s a feature story he wrote about Iowa men’s basketball coach Fran McCaffery.

The Missouri student internship is made possible by the university’s journalism school along with the Institute for Nonprofit News, of which MinnPost is a member. The Iowa student internship is made possible by a generous gift from John and Lesa Tieszen.

In addition to the summer internships, MinnPost continues to work with the University of Minnesota to place a part-time intern in the newsroom each fall.
