Businesses: We want to hear how the shutdown is affecting you

Are you a business owner affected by the shutdown? Perhaps it’s a matter of licensing or the suspension of a contract. If you’d like to share your experiences directly with readers, you can do it in the comments section below. If you’d rather speak confidentially, please use the simple and secure form I’ve created by following this link. No detail is too small. The newspaper I own has not been affected one iota by the shutdown of state government.

#1 Mischke: You are being surprisingly naive. Your newspaper has already been affected — you don’t realize it yet. Do you know how many state employees live in your circulation area? Do you know how many business owners (like me) whose businesses have been affected by the shutdown live in your area ? I’m spending less money on Grand Avenue and in Highland Park this month because I don’t know if I’ll be able to draw a paycheck. The businesses I’m not patronizing are your advertisers, and that should be of concern to you.
