Mary Gade, Region Five administrator for the Environmental Protection Agency, is resigning over the battle of Dow Chemical dioxin contamination and cleanup in Michigan, the Chicago Tribune is reporting.

Two top EPA officials told her to quit or be fired by June 1, and she has been stripped of her Authority, Gade told the paper.

Her region includes Minnesota, Wisconsin, Illinois, Ohio, Michigan and Indiana.

A Dow spokesperson told the Associated Press that it “never asked or implied” that she be removed from her post.
