The Mankato School Board has selected Sheri Allen to be the new superintendent. She’s currently the executive director of K-12 education in Rochester Public Schools.

Allen will replace retiring superintendent Ed Waltman on July 1.

She was the only one of the three finalists without previous superintendent experience, but the board liked that she does have extensive experience in the Big Nine Conference (she’s held positions at Austin, Owatonna and Rochester) and that she had been a teacher, principal and administrator.

“She’ll hit the ground running with the challenges that impact students the most,” said board member Sara Hansen.

The other two finalists were Timothy Mitchell, superintendent of Chamberlain (S.D.) Public Schools, and Klint Willert, superintendent of Marshall Public Schools.
