A day after being named the American League Most Valuable Player, Twins catcher Joe Mauer will get a plaque this afternoon from St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman.

The mayor has declared it “Joe Mauer Day,” to honor the St. Paul native who played his high school ball at Cretin-Derham Hall High School. He’ll give Mauer a formal proclamation listing many of the ballplayer’s contributions to the community in a 4 p.m. ceremony at the Jimmy Lee Recreation Center, 270 N. Lexington Pkwy., St. Paul.
