Former DFL Gov. Wendell Anderson has thrown his support in the 2010 governor’s race to House Speaker Margaret Anderson Kelliher, reports the Pioneer Press’ Political Animal blog.

Kelliher’s campaign put out the news, quoting from a letter of support from Anderson which notes that the state’s current financial problems are not unlike those he faced as governor in the early 1970s, when he shepherded radical budgeting changes referred to as the Minnesota Miracle.

“Today, we face a similar, if not more severe, set of challenges,” Anderson wrote. “Margaret Anderson Kelliher is a proven leader, ready to guide our state toward long-term solutions.”

Ten other DFLers are vying for the party’s endorsement in the race; seven Republicans remain in the running to replace Gov. Tim Pawlenty, who isn’t seeking re-election in 2010.
