Matt Kramer, who was Gov. Tim Pawlenty’s chief of staff from 2006 to 2009, is the new head of the St. Paul Area Chamber of Commerce.

Working for the governor, Matt Kramer helped to develop the JOBZ tax-incentive program to increase economic development in Greater Minnesota.

Susan Kimberly, a former St. Paul City Council member and a former aide to Norm Coleman when he was St. Paul mayor, had been filling in as interim chamber president.

The Pioneer Press editorial page is happy about Kramer’s appointment and thanks Kimberly for delaying her retirement to lead the group:

Government officials sometimes have a tendency to take our businesses for granted, but the Chamber never does. A strong chamber means that the voice of business will be heard, loud and clear, when important decisions are being made. We are happy that Matt Kramer will be that voice.
