St. Paul Mayor Chris Coleman and Ramsey County Attorney John Choi have endorsed their Chris Tolbert in the city’s open City Council seat in Ward 3.

Tolbert, an assistant Hennepin County attorney who lives in the Highland Park area, also has labor endorsements in the race.

“Chris Tolbert will bring St. Paul roots, DFL values and an uncommon energy to the City Council,” said Coleman.

“Chris grew up in St. Paul. He is a product of our school system, our libraries and our recreation centers,” said Choi.

Pat Harris is leaving the council after three terms, making Ward 3 the only open race in St. Paul’s fall election, where all seven council seats are up for election.

Also running for the open seat is John Mannillo, a downtown developer who’s run in the past for mayor. He’s backed by many current and former elected officials, including state Sen. Dick Cohen, Ramsey County Commissioner Rafael Ortega,  Council Member Dave Thune, former Mayor and Judge Larry Cohen, former Mayor George Latimer and former Council Member and County Commissioner Ruby Hunt.
