the Minneapolis City Council Member Don Samuels has dropped out of the race for Hennepin County Commissioner seat in District 2, citing family reasons.

The Star Tribune says he’s throwing his support to state Sen. Linda Higgins in the campaign to fill the seat vacated by Mark Stenglein, who stepped down to become president and CEO of the Minneapolis Downtown Council.

There are still nine candidates running in the primary election. Higgins has the DFL endorsement.

Samuels announced his decision to withdraw from the race in a Facebook note, saying his wife, Sondra, “is facing a hectic period of expansion” at her job as CEO of the Northside Achievement Zone.
