In what is billed as a show of support for the troops, Minnesota’s Lt. Gov. Yvonne Prettner Solon will parachute Tuesday afternoon from the skies above St. Paul to land on the state Capitol lawn.

She’ll be skydiving with the U.S. Army Parachute Team called the “Golden Knights,” and will jump from 12,500 feet above the ground.

They say she’ll fall at a rate of 120 miles per hour. It’s a tandem jump, so she’ll be tethered to an experienced jumper.

An expert will give her a safety briefing Tuesday before the plane takes off from Holman field. The parachute landing is expected at 2:20 p.m.

After the jump, Prettner Solon and Gov. Mark Dayton and  Secretary of State Mark Ritchie will sign a Community Covenant pledge that shows support for military families.
