St. Paul officials said a crane operator working on the St. Paul Saints ballpark site was killed Tuesday morning in an accident.
The city fire marshal said the construction worker died just after 8 a.m. while helping demolish the old Gillette/Diamond Products building in Lowertown, on the eastern edge of downtown St. Paul.
Reports say Rachel Contracting of St. Michael had been hired for the work.
A new $63 million publicly subsidized ballpark for the St. Paul Saints minor-league baseball team will be erected in that spot when the old building is removed and further financing and construction contract details are firmed up.
