Gov. Mark Dayton has signed a bill designating the portion of Hwy. 36 running through North St. Paul as the “Officer Richard Crittenden, Sr., Memorial Highway.”

Crittenden was a nine-year veteran of the North St. Paul police force when he was shot and killed in 2009 while responding to a domestic violence call.

Dayton said in a statement: “Although we can never repay Officer Crittenden for his heroic sacrifice, or fill the terrible void felt by his family, friends, and fellow officers, this action will help honor his memory and heroic service for many years to come.”
