Nicole Mills has been hired as the first executive director of Oasis for Youth, an agency that helps homeless youth in Hennepin County’s southern suburbs.
She will join two case managers, a program director and community volunteers who help 160 young people each year in Richfield, Edina and Bloomington.
Oasis was formed in 2007 by seven women concerned about youth housing in their area. The group formed an independent board in 2011 and operates a drop-in center at a Bloomington church. It provides housing, work, school and health support to youth facing homelessness.
Mills has worked with youth for a decade, most recently opening a new homeless youth shelter and supervising all housing programs at Booth Brown House of the Salvation Army.
Mills said: “My goal and hope is of creating more opportunities for youth to stay in the community they call home.”
