Jane Chu, chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, comes to Minnesota next week to visit some arts organizations that receive NEA grants.

She’ll also speak at an April 8 public forum at the History Theatre in St. Paul, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Also on the panel will be Rep. Betty McCollum and Sue Gens, executive director of the Minnesota State Arts Board.

Her first tour stop April 8 is at Open Book in Minneapolis, which houses the Loft Literary Center, Milkweed Editions and Minnesota Center for Book Arts.

She’ll then visit MacPhail Center for Music to learn about its Online Partnership Programs and Online Early Childhood Music program.

Later, she’ll watch a class at the Hmong Cultural Center in St. Paul on playing the qeej, a reed instrument made of wood and bamboo.

On April 9, she’ll tour the Anderson Center at Tower View in Red Wing to learn more about its artist residency program.

[An earlier version of this story incorrectly listed the location of the April 8th public forum with Jane Chu. It will be at the History Theatre, 30 E. 10th St., St. Paul, not the History Center.]
