Under his state of emergency powers declared in response to the coronavirus pandemic, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz could potentially order the state to move to an all vote-by-mail election.
“I am diametrically opposed to the language that we’ve got before us,” said the ranking Republican on the Minnesota House’s elections subcommittee, Rep. Jim Nash. “I don’t think you’re gonna find a lot of support coming out of the GOP for this.”
Even if restrictions on gatherings subside in the wake of COVID-19, having voters come into voting precincts to cast ballots this fall — not to mention having poll workers staff election sites — might not be a wise option.
