Broadway Confidential, a new series of engagements designed by Hennepin Theatre Trust to explore the 2011-2012 Broadway season, kicks off on Monday, Oct. 17, with ” ‘La Cage Aux Folles’: Evolution of the Transgender Culture.”
Local entertainer and Lavender Magazine contributor Wanda Wisdom
will be discussing the history and communities of transgender culture and demonstrating her transformation into “drag” with the help of her professional makeup artist and fellow drag entertainer, Robb Grier.
This Broadway Confidential event previews the opening night of “La Cage Aux Folles,” showing Oct. 18-23 at the State Theatre.
Broadway Confidential tickets normally cost $15, but members of The Scene — Hennepin Theatre Trust’s young professionals group — can attend Broadway Confidential: “La Cage Aux Folles” for free. Just show your membership card at the door.
The Scene members can also purchase up to two $30 tickets to “La Cage” by presenting a membership card at the State Theatre Box Office on the night of the show.

She’s been covered in OUT and Genre magazines and featured on SIRIUS Satellite Radio’s “Podshow” and Detroit WKRK’s “Motor City Middays.”
With little more than a microphone and an honest voice, this rising Midwestern starlet — whom Paul Graham of the BBC called “captivating!” — has grown a worldwide audience in the thousands.
Broadway Confidential series
These talks by local experts are designed to provide theater-goers with a glimpse of musical history and a deeper understanding of the material presented onstage.
Talks will take place each Monday before the opening night of Hennepin Theatre Trust’s Broadway shows.
Other series topics will include the background of the Paris Uprising of 1932 that inspired “Les Misérables” and the theatrical tricks that were used to turn animation into live theater in Disney’s “The Lion King.”
