It’s a big election year in Minnesota: the governor and all the other statewide constitutional offices are all up for election in 2022, along with each of Minnesota’s U.S. House seats and all 201 members of the Minnesota Legislature. For the latter two groups, they will be running in brand new districts.

With so many offices on the ballot and multiple candidates declared for each of them, MinnPost is keeping track of who’s running in Minnesota. This page will keep track of candidates for governor, attorney general, secretary of state, auditor and each of Minnesota’s eight U.S. House seats. (We’re also keeping track of candidates for the Minnesota Legislature.) This post will be updated throughout the year as candidates are added to and leave the race.

Know about a candidate who’s running that you don’t see listed here? Let us know by emailing whosrunning@minnpost.com.

  1. No one is running against Hagedorn who supports the BigLie and refuses to support investigating the Jan 6 violent coup members, who tried to undermine our fair election?

  2. Two comments – Keith Ellison won by 100,000 votes. Not a close race. He was the source of months of attacks and was used by Republicans to try to defeat all statewide candidates. Failed strategy,

Tom Hagedorn is described as living in Truman MN. His Wikipedia bio lists Blue Earth. It has been suggested he actually lives in the metro. Worth checking the facts.

  4. “Kim Crockett
    Republican
Crockett is an attorney who was an attorney and policy advocate for the conservative Center of the American Experiment”

    AAHH!!!

    Secretary of State!!!

One will need a document proving your lineage to the Mayflower to vote in Kim Crockett’s world.

Too conservative even for the CAE: Fired when she told the quiet part out loud when talking about immigrants in St Cloud:

“It’s not like they are from Norway!”

    Can anyone say:

    “White Supremacist”

  5. The GOP challengers are making their COVID response as one of their main issues. Great, that is the best news I’ve heard today.

Senate Republican Party Chair John Dvorak said: “We care about the local community, we care about the local issues facing our residents, whether that be housing, health care, any type of mandates, any type of education, curriculum, anything like that. We are all about taking care of Senate District 14 and their residents, and ensuring that we’re fighting for them.

Senator Paul Gazelka, Representative Peggy Bennett and a bunch of other Republicans are carrying guns into our Capital buildings. They are afraid of the boogeyman but not worried about Covid-19. They scream about peoples’ rights in not wearing masks or not getting vaccinated.

Five of the Republicans running for governor have already had Covid-19 but remain opposed to any vaccination mandates. Jensen, who is a physician, and Murphy still have not been vaccinated. Gazelka said he and his wife got their shots after he was infected by the virus. Shah said he had a breakthrough case after getting the Johnson & Johnson vaccine. “I took horse dewormer, and I’m still here,” Shah said.

Back in September GOP candidate Scott Jensen called for “civil disobedience” from Minnesotans and businesses asking them to ignore vaccine and mask guidance to slow the spread of Covid-19.

In December Representatives Peggy Bennett, Tama Theis and 36 other state lawmakers asked Mayo Clinic to end COVID vaccine mandates for employees. “We will not support state funding for programs like these, or any other funding, for any healthcare facility that fires their employees due to unrealistic vaccine mandate policies.”

The Mayo Clinic responded saying that they stood firmly behind the evidence supporting the efficacy and safety of Covid-19 vaccines.

St. Cloud Times – Reporter Kevin S. Carpenter 12/26/2021: “these 38 Republicans decided to challenge the world’s most renowned experts in medicine on their stand on a medical issue. When faced with a serious medical condition, how many people consult the Republicans in the MN State House of Representatives rather than the Mayo Clinic?”

While Senator Paul Gazelka attacks Governor Walz’s record on the pandemic, he had his own vulnerabilities there. Gazelka hosted a victory party after the November 2020 election at which Sen. Jerry Relph, of St. Cloud, according to his daughter, likely caught his fatal case of COVID-19. Later, Gazelka caught it too.

Associated Press November 17, 2020: “Sen. Paul Gazelka is among Republican senators who have tested positive for COVID-19 in recent days. Gazelka was criticized for not sharing news of those positive tests and possible exposures with Democratic colleagues before a special session last week. He was also blasted for holding a post-election event that dozens of fellow Republicans attended. Shortly after calls for his resignation he stated “As state leaders, it is our responsibility to lead by example.

Mike Murphy stated that the vaccination process is a “transformation of our wealth to big pharma.” “Natural immunity is where it’s at,” he said.

I wonder what the Minnesota death toll would have been if any of these Republicans had been at the helm. It would be regrettable if Governor Walz would lose politically after demonstrating actual pandemic leadership. We were lucky that we had a governor in there with common sense.

  6. Did the candidates write the blurbs or did Minnpost? Iron ore mining is NOT a big issue in the Eighth District.

  7. Black Friday is tomorrow for the TV channels- the end of the Christmas spending spree for TV commercials.

How on earth did the media win the “right” to keep political ads running on election day? It makes no sense on election day.

Truth in advertising: time to get the networks involved; penalties could include fines and profiting their ads for certain length of time. Some of those TV ads are really bizarre.
